Owner-client dogs must meet specific maximum size, breed and health conditions. All dogs must be nonaggressive, people friendly with an affectionate disposition and not prone to excessive barking.
Client dogs providing community service who will be interacting with other people, mostly elderly or children, will be registered as emotional support and comfort dogs, and only those that meet the certification requirements will be available for community service.
Owner-client dogs participating in the CRiSP program will be from individuals or families incapable of properly caring for their dog.
Other sources would be from incapacitated owners living at home, in rehabilitation centers, assisted and independent living facilities, or from those engaged in providing dog maintenance services.
Additional sources will be from estate attorneys and financial planners who have prepared, or are in the process of preparing, their clients’ estate plans. All these sources must provide participating owner-clients who have been thoroughly vetted.
